I have two highly picky Welsh Corgis and have experimented with a variety of dog foods. They used to eat Merrick puppy as puppies, but they became bored with it, so we switched to Purina ProPlan puppy, which my male had a skin allergy that affects the fine hair around the eyes to fall out.
They were old enough to switch to an adult formula, so I settled on Orijen Regional Red after hours of research. After a few months, they had lost interest in eating anything unless it contained steak or chicken. After that, we tried Merrick Texas beef and followed the same procedure. So I gave Wellness Core a try, and it turned out to be a success.
They’ve been on it for more than a year and will eat it plain, except the occasional chicken or steak. As a topper, I’ve been using The Wellness Core air-dried original formula recently. It’s simply very high-quality food.
Their coat is less shedding and feels softer and fuller than it has in the past. While this bag costs a little more for a slightly lighter weight than a standard 30-pound bag, it’s well worth it. After all this time, I am happy that the dogs do not get bored with this dog food.

Since my veterinarian suggested it, I used to feed Purina Pro Plan (lamb) to my Corgi and Chihuahua. I recently discovered Wellness (Chicken) after a two-hour scan. I asked for input from dog owners, and they sent me such positive responses that I decided to buy this dog food.
Now, I’ve just finished the first pack, which my Corgi adores, but I also gave it to my chihuahua, who loved it as well (despite her aversion to food).
I followed the website’s recommendations and began mixing Purina food with Wellness for two weeks, gradually decreasing the amount of Purina per day. (*Visit the Wellness website to see their guidelines for changing your dog’s food; otherwise, it can cause illness.) By the way, each time the chihuahua consumed the Wellness and left the Purina, the Pug ate them both, which isn’t surprising.
It also made his coat shinier, and he seemed to be in better shape (less gassy stomach and his stool look a lot smaller and solid too). These were not instantaneous adjustments, and It took about a month for me to see them, but my dog has undoubtedly improved.
For the long-term gains I’ve seen in him, the extra cost is well worth it. They’re just eating Wellness now. There were no issues at all, and my dogs adored them.

I spoke to a pet shop’s owner said she had been to the warehouse, where she was served a plate full of food and told that this was a food sample before it was made into dog food. It was delicious, she said! So I gave the dog food a try, and my dog eats it and seems to be safe and not overweight! I’ve been feeding my dogs for two months now. I babysit other dogs, and they bring their favorite brands of dog food, such as Gold, but they all adore Merrick. Freeze-dried foods are the best and most favorite for all dogs, but they are prohibitively costly. Freeze-dried treats are tasty, but they’re a little expensive for dog food, so this seems like a great alternative!
In any case, I’ve been feeding grain-free since my Corgi was weaned, and she’s now 12 and as healthy as ever. A vet also made an educated guess at her age, estimating that she was six years old. Grain-free, I believe, keeps them young and safe. When I spend a little more on food for my little one, I’m reminded of the scene in the movie Hit and Run where Bradley Cooper’s character tells the guy next to him in the supermarket line who is buying the cheap dog food, “that stuff is cheaper but it’s like 80 percent more poison”. This statement may be so true.

First and foremost, I appreciate that I can read the ingredients and know exactly what I’m getting; if you order chicken, the element will be chicken; there will be no “chicken powder” or other substitutions.
My boy’s fur and stools significantly improved after I moved to Merricks after feeding him Beneful for his entire life, and he loved it. My Corgi disliked turkey, but he adored chicken and beef.
You get excellent dog food, and it’s well worth the money for your dog.

I purchased this dog food after my doctor recommended it for a dog I fostered three years ago who had been severely abused. The dog had lost much of her digestive tract due to the violence. She needed a diet that would keep her healthy, and this is the diet that the veterinarian recommended.
As a result, after adopting my puppy, I continued to buy this dog food. My dogs are strong, healthy, and big for their size. Every time we visit the vet, he compliments them on their fitness, weight, and muscle tone, including my 8-year-old Corgi! Their stool is a good consistency, their movements are regular, they never get stomach upset or gassy, and they’ve never refused to eat it or grown tired of it because of the healthy mix.

Small dogs, as I’m sure many of you already know, have sensitive stomachs. For my Corgi, I went through various brands, and he would get a stomach ache, throwing up every few days or miss the food for days at a time. All of the other brands that I have tried were also high-end.
Nutro was something I purchased for him, and he devoured it. And he continued to eat it. He grazes, but his plate is still clean by the end of the night. And he just throws up once or twice a year. He’s been on Nutro for about three years, and because of my success with this brand, I have no plans to buy anything else for my dog.

Let’s be frank about it. We think much too much about what comes out of our dog’s rear end as pet owners. I’ve had so many poop discussions with my husband that I’m sure someone who has no pets or children thinks I’m mad. Was the colour all right? Was it solid or runny? We couldn’t find out why one of our Corgis had loose stools and smell awful for months.
My vet said it has to be a food allergy because she also had skin issues. Food allergies in animals, in my opinion, are an overused condition with a variety of symptoms. Our dog’s skin condition didn’t seem to be an allergic reaction in dogs.
However, I wanted to go along with the vet and try moving her to dog food with fewer ingredients. I chose Canidae Grain Free dog food because it contained only ten primary ingredients, as well as the vitamins and minerals we wanted to ensure our dog received.
Let me tell you, my dog’s poop has become solid after a few days on this food! The skin around her eyes and mouth have healed up after a few weeks! It’s been over a month. Overall, I’m delighted with the consistency of this dog food, and I believe it has improved my dog’s health.

The last time I checked, the widely trusted dog food expert gave this dog food 4.5/5 stars and among the best dog food for Corgis. Furthermore, my adorable baby seems to like the taste and has had no problems with her digestion or allergies.
We moved to a different food based on a vet’s advice for a few months, but I saw her lovely silky hair become dull and not shining as previously, she gained weight, and she developed a chronic runny nose. Since then, we’ve gone back to Canidae, and things seem to be back on track.
One of the best results of consuming Canidae is that her stool is always picture-perfect when she eats it (sorry, perhaps gross, but it’s an excellent thing for pet owners!) This brand is also one of the few foods I’ve noticed that benefits Senior dogs in weight management, which is vital to me and my 11-year-old Corgi, who faces increased health risks as she gets older if she doesn’t keep her weight under control. She started feeling pudgy and improving two years ago, but this diet seems to be the solution.

This is everything that my puppy adores! Before buying this grain-free dog food, I researched various grain-free dog foods, and to be honest; the ingredients really sold me. I feed this to my five-month-old Corgi, and she’s been on it for about a month. The breeder fed her Purina puppy chow, and her coat was so dull that she never drank water and her poop became so loose.
When I fed her this food, she immediately changed. Her coat improves from dull to very shiny, and her poop is entirely normal. The vet also inquired about what brand of dog food we feed her because she seemed to be in good health. I would recommend this dog food to anyone who is looking for a grain-free option. I was initially reluctant because of her small size, but I do not regret purchasing it.

I have one Siberian husky and one Corgy, both 14-15 years old, and we are always on the lookout for high-protein foods. We were thrilled to find this one! Our boys enjoy it, and their skin has changed as a result of it. I’m not a veterinarian, but I understand that because dogs are still carnivores, grains in their food can cause various skin problems, including hot spots.
Yes, the first time we saw a hot spot on our dogs before the malamute, we did research – we spoke to a man who ran a wolf reserve outside of Reno, NV, and he told us to look for high real-protein dog food – hotspots might be caused by of grains – we watch our dogs diets, and they do really well.
People are always shocked to know their actual age as they look much younger and do not get sick like most dogs. We adore this food, and our dogs love it as well! Investigate, be responsible, and accountable; don’t just take people’s word for it; learn for yourself.
Common Disease for Corgis
The Pembroke Welsh Corgi breed of the Cardigan Welsh Corgi has been considered the same breed since 1934. They are bred to be fast enough to herd livestock and short enough to avoid getting kicked by cattle.
Corgis are very active, and with proper movement and training, a Pembroke Welsh Corgi can express his instinct to look after a family that includes children and other pets. She is eager to please her family and, with appropriate socialization, is friendly to strangers.
Apart from buying the best dog food for your Corgis, it is crucial to always alert any symptoms or health issue at an early stage. Early health problems detection can help to reduce the severity and increase the chance to be cured.
Like all dog breeds, corgis are more likely to suffer from specific health problems and disability than other dogs. However, Pembroke Welsh Corgis are slightly more likely than any other dog to have these conditions.
Although corgis are hardy dogs, they are prone to severe diseases. With increasing age, the accumulated pressure in the spine can cause the dog to develop painful disabilities. Corgis are among the breeds most likely to develop degenerative myelopathy, a nerve disease.
This is a common condition in dogs with long backs and short legs, including corgis. A jelly-like cushion slips and bursts between one or more vertebrae, pushing the intervertebral disc against the spinal cord. Degenerative myelopathy is a neurological disorder similar to ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease) in humans that causes hind legs to be weak and poor nerve function. If your dog has this condition, he or she may be ineffective and hindered in both back legs and may suffer paralysis in his or her hindquarters, leading to incontinence.
This is an inherited disorder that involves an abnormality in a dog’s hip on one side. It is a health condition that occurs in many dog breeds but is most common in corgis. The disease appears to be most common in Pembroke Corgis and not only causes pain, but affected dogs are also unable to behave or function normally and are likely to have adverse effects on their welfare.
Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD)
This is a common condition in dogs with long backs and short legs, including Corgi. Some corgis have achondroplasia, a form of dwarfism that leads to shorter legs. According to PetMD, this condition is promoted in Corgi and other dogs such as dachshunds and some terrier breed to give them their tiny stature.
Von Willebrand’s Disease
Pembroke Welsh Corgis are usually associated with the disorder that causes the blood to clot. It is inherited from a simple recessive gene that affects all dogs and can be treated with routine treatment with few side effects. We carry out diagnostic tests for clots all the time, with specific DNA and blood tests for these and other similar disorders to check for problems before surgery.
Obesity carries many risks for your Corgi, and proper food and weight management is key to preventing this problem. Treating an obese corgi is not tricky, but working with a veterinarian to limit portions and ensure that the Corgi eats healthy food is enough to get an obese corgi to a healthy weight.
